GROWING FORESTS FOR OUR FUTURE

Celebrating 300 million seedlings planted

Sierra Pacific Industries Plants 300 Millionth Tree

In Spring of 2024, Sierra Pacific Industries planted its 300 millionth seedling on its timberlands. This milestone was decades in the making, reflecting our commitment to sustainable forest management and ensuring we have forests not just for today, but for generations to come.

Reflections

SPI founder Red Emmerson shared: “I wouldn’t have imagined 75 years ago when we started with no land and one sawmill that I would see the day we planted 300 million trees. This is a legacy I am proud of and I am proud of our team that made this possible.”

Sustainable Forest Management

We plant seedlings after every harvest – planting three trees for every one we harvest. We help forests recover after wildfires by planting new seedlings. We plant a variety of species that are appropriate for each forest area, as well as manage for other tree and plant species. In 2024 alone, we planted 12.4 million seedlings in our forests across California, Oregon and Washington. This work provides for an on-going cycle that supports the health, resilience, and productivity of forests.

Growing Seedlings

We also have a new conifer nursery that will, when at full capacity, grow 25 million seedlings annually. These seedlings will be planted on Sierra Pacific land, as well as on state, federal and other private forestlands.

Our approach to sustainable forest management aligns with environmental and climate goals. It ensures that every tree planted supports the forest ecosystem, wildlife, clean water and air, while also providing a reliable source of logs for the sawmills and the sustainable products we manufacture. It is why we are growing forests for our future.
